Lesson 1: Laying the Groundwork for Growth
Before you even think about writing a job description, identify the exact problem your new hire will solve. Is it administrative overload, a skills gap, or increased demand? Clearly defining this will help you craft a role that genuinely adds value and prevents hiring out of panic. Think about your budget too: can you realistically afford a salary plus employer National Insurance contributions (currently around 13.8% on earnings above the secondary threshold) and potential pension contributions?
