Matted are one of the UK’s most exciting new rock bands, blending heavy riffs with emotional depth and sonic experimentation. Since their debut in May 2024, the five-piece has built fast momentum—playing Download Festival, Call of the Wild, Planet Rockstock, and supporting Crashface, Armored Saint, and Von Hertzen Brothers, alongside sold-out headline shows in London and Brighton. Their first releases have earned airplay on BBC Introducing and Kerrang! Radio, with the latter naming them finalists in their ‘The Deal’ competition. The band’s foundation is rooted in long-standing creative chemistry. Guitarist Jake Slack and bassist Jacob Swann met as child performers in School of Rock: The Musical, later forming teen rock band Chapter 13, who earned a golden buzzer on Britain’s Got Talent and played the O2 Arena. Post-pandemic, they regrouped with a mission to build something more honest, independent, and collaborative. That mission led them to vocalist Max Walker, whose distinctive voice and genre-blending influences brought a powerful new dimension. He brought in guitarist Oscar Paulley, and the lineup was solidified with drummer Tom Walker, whose industrial influences brought edge and intensity. Matted’s music draws on a rich mix of influences—from AC/DC and Alice in Chains to Nine Inch Nails, Mr Bungle, and Beastie Boys—delivering rock that’s raw, melodic, and uniquely their own. The band have been working on their debut recordings with Harry Judd (McFly) and released their debut single “Material”, mixed by Romesh Dodangoda, in Feb 2025. Follow-up “Flowers and Chains” (June 2025), mixed by Lewis Johns, offered a deeper dive into their evolving sound and vision. Lewis has also mixed the band’s forthcoming 3rd single, a live favourite “Gaslight” which is out on 7th October 2025. More music is already in the works with further releases planned in 2025 and 2026.
