Abbey's Royal Connections
Reading Abbey, founded by King Henry I in 1121, was once one of England's most important religious sites and is believed to be his final resting place. The Abbey Gateway also briefly served as a school for Jane Austen.
Biscuit Town Legacy
During the 19th and early 20th centuries, Reading was known as 'Biscuit Town' and was home to Huntley & Palmers, the world's largest biscuit manufacturer. The company's global reach meant that 'seldom a ship sails from England that does not bear within his ribs a Reading biscuit'
