Common faults
We’ve seen it, and fixed it, before.
Jaguars and Land Rovers are great vehicles, but every make has its quirks. Years of hands-on work mean we’ve seen most of the issues these cars can develop.

The faults we fix most
Ten faults we know well.
And plenty more besides.
Timing chain wear
Some JLR engines are known for timing chain stretch or wear, often heard as a rattle. Left alone it can cause serious engine timing problems, so we look for the early signs and replace the chain before it fails.
Software faults
From frozen infotainment screens to erratic gear changes, modern Jaguars and Land Rovers can develop software faults. We update and reprogram modules, clear the fault codes and get things running smoothly again.
Window regulator failures
A window that sticks, or drops into the door, is a classic fault. We’ve replaced a great many regulators, motors and switches, and usually get the window working again quickly.
DPF and AdBlue faults
Diesel models can suffer from blocked diesel particulate filters (DPFs) or AdBlue system errors, shown by warning lights, limp mode or “restricted performance”. We clean DPFs, repair the injection system and reset the faults.
Vibration under braking
A judder or shake when braking, especially at speed, usually points to warped brake discs or worn suspension parts. We inspect, find the cause and replace what’s needed for a smooth, safe stop.
Battery health
JLR vehicles are sensitive to low voltage. A weak battery can trigger false warning messages or stop the car starting. We test the battery and charging system and, if needed, fit a new battery and code it to the car.
“Restricted performance” mode
This message usually means the car has gone into limp mode, often because of a turbo problem, an intake leak or a faulty sensor. We find the cause and restore full power.
Airbag system warnings
An airbag or SRS light can come from a faulty seat sensor, clock spring or wiring. We diagnose and repair it safely so the airbag system works as it should.
Key and immobiliser faults
If the car won’t recognise a key, the immobiliser is playing up or a fob has stopped working, we can supply and program new keys or find out why the car isn’t responding.
Fog light problems
Cracked lenses, water getting in and blown bulbs are common, partly because fog lights sit so low. We repair or replace them so they’re ready for any weather.
