What you need to know

1
Getting There: Trams

Leipzig's tram system is excellent. Lines 3, 7, 8, and 15 all stop at 'Sportforum Süd' or 'Sportforum Ost', both of which are a short walk from the stadium. Your match ticket often includes free public transport.

2
Pfand System for Cups

Germany operates a cup deposit system (Pfand) to reduce waste. You will pay a small deposit, typically €1-2, for your reusable plastic cup, which is refunded when you return it to a collection point.

3
Pre-Match Area: Waldstraßenviertel

The nearby Waldstraßenviertel is a beautiful neighbourhood with stunning architecture. On match days, its pubs and beer gardens, like the popular Gosenschenke 'Ohne Bedenken', are filled with fans.

4
Cash and Card Payments

While Germany is becoming more card-friendly, carrying some cash is always recommended. Many smaller food and drink stalls, both inside and outside the stadium, may still prefer cash (Euros).

Good questions

Is my match ticket valid for public transport?

For most major events, yes. Your ticket typically allows free travel on Leipzig's public transport network (LVB) for several hours before and after the match. Always check the specific details printed on your ticket.

What is the best way to get from the city centre?

The tram is the easiest and most popular option. From the central station (Hauptbahnhof), you can take a direct tram that will get you to the 'Sportforum' stops in around 10 minutes. It is also a pleasant 30-minute walk.

Are backpacks allowed inside the Red Bull Arena?

No, large bags and backpacks are generally not permitted. Only small bags up to A4 size are allowed. There are limited storage facilities available nearby, but it is best to travel light and leave large items at your accommodation.
